Need Staff?

The retail sector employs nearly 1.5 million Australians which makes it the largest employer industry in Australia.

Estimates suggest that more than 120 000 new entrants will be needed in the sector over the next 5 years which suggests that it will be the hardest hit by low unemployment levels.

In June the Commonwealth Government launched the Employer Hotline to assist businesses in finding the staff they need.

"The (initiative encourages) employers to look beyond their traditional recruitment channels and details the range of government services available to help them find staff." Hon Joe Hockey MP Minister for Workplace Relations

Between 17 June and 9 July 1200 job seekers have phoned the hotline seeking information on finding work and the website www.australia.gov.au/needstaff, has received 70,444 hits up to 15 July.
